Global Language of Business
GS1 is a common business language used worldwide and consists of many standards for barcodes and other means of identification, sharing and markup.
GS1 is common in, amongst other things, the food industry where the standard is used to define EAN codes. All barcodes contain a number or letter sequence that corresponds to the content of the product, the bar codes are structured in different ways. For example, in EAN codes the first three digits correspond to the country of origin. At present there are 111 countries participating and have their own original labeling numbers.
For GS1, there are ready-made standard structures for sending messages between points A and B that facilitate both development integrations. These messages consist of predefined nodes for specific purposes, which means that one and the same document can contain all important information.
